Bernette B38 Swiss Design Computerized Sewing Machine

The most affordable top model in the bernette series of sewing machines with the widest range of functions

Considered the top model in the Bernette series, the Bernette 38 sewing machine offers an expansive range of components at a price point that any sewing enthusiast can afford! The computerized functions feature over 394 different stitches, and one of its most popular features, the stretch stitch for elastic fabrics such as T-shirts and jerseys.

The Bernette 38 also has eight different one-step buttonholes, three alphabets, and a memory function so you can store your patterns and return to your projects later. One standout feature of the Bernette 38 is its useful speed regulator, which allows you to make adjustments right on the display.

Additionally, the Bernette 38 sewing machine has a threader, an automatic and manual thread cutter, and a bright LED light that makes sewing that seam a “seamless” process.

Here are some of this high-quality sewing machine’s capabilities:

394 stitches (67 decorative stitches and 8 buttonholes)
Adjustable presser foot pressure
Automatic thread cutter
Storage function for stitch combinations
Three alphabets

Automatic limitation for double needles:

Making the switch from a single to a double needle can be a bit tricky. The Bernette 38 sewing machine features a “double needle button” so that you can quickly adapt your needle to the presser foot. This “double needle safety” function helps keep the needle from breaking off when the presser foot is engaged.

Adjusting the presser foot pressure to suit the material:

Lightweight fabrics are more delicate and can lead to unwanted damage to materials such as chiffon. The Bernette 38 features an adjustable presser foot that allows you to quickly change the pressure when working with thinner fabrics.

Automatic thread cutter and tie-off function:

Cutting and tying off a thread has never been easier with the Bernette 38 automatic tie-off feature. Preventing a seam from unraveling traditionally requires making a quick backward and forward stitch. This is no longer necessary with the Bernette 38.

Simply select the tie-off button, and the end of the seam will be tied off automatically. When you have finished your sewing project, press the button for the automatic thread cutter you can pull your completed work out from under the needle without having to reach for the scissors.

Extension table for large sewing projects included:

The Bernette 38 comes with an extension table for those larger sewing projects such as quilts, curtains, or tapestries. This extension table is also detachable and can easily be stored to save space.

Eight presser feet are included. You can choose the right presser foot for any application:

    Bernette B 38

Posted by Sharon Marcotte on 7th Aug 2020

Receiived this machine 2 days after I placed my order. It was packaged for safe shipment and the machine box was undamaged. I found all the described parts. The machine was easy to set up. It threads just like my Janome 8077. And I found out after the purchase that my Janome presser feet and bobbins work with the B 38. A big plus! Straight stitches are done smoothly and quietly, even at higher speed. The utility and special patterns are noisier but smoothly accomplished..It is fairly intuitive after a quick read of the book. The needle threader works nicely. The lighting is much better than my old 8077. I really like the needle up/down button.. And the Knot tie and thread cutter work GREATI I have only used it a few hours, but at this point, II think it is a really good buy for the money. Thanks, Sew n Vac!

    Bernette b38

I purchased this "back up" machine about a year ago to use for classes and vacation travel. I was already accustomed to Bernina quality as I normally sew on a 740. This b38 has been wonderful and I highly recommend it! The tension is consistent, stitches are excellent and I love the automatic thread cutter and comprehensive manual. I shopped several brands for this purchase including Janome, Brother and Pfaff and I'm convinced I got the best possible "back up" machine at the best price!

    Nice

I used Brother's machine for 10 years. I still love it but wanted to try different brand for thicker material and more stich pattern. Foot pressing strength can be adjusted and that is very helpful. Auto cutting thread is nice feature. I like the fact most foot from Brother's can be used. Autho threadding is very easy and great, and tension setting is very easy. I am satisfied with my purchase. IF you are beginner, it is not necesary to have this upscaled machine, so I recommend for an experienced user.

If you are looking for certain functions, it is good.

Posted by funsewer on 1st Feb 2019

This sewing machine has many functions and this is lower lebel of bernina. I chose this machine because of some functions I was looking for. One step button holes, eyelet, bartack, monogram, auto thread cutting, speed, and press foot pressure. I like it overall. It is easy to use and not to slow and quite. However I figured out the foot area makes me hunched and the foot lifting all the way up need strong arm, wrist power even after control the press foot pressure. And the monogram is not really needed. The one thing I don’t really use is another language except english. However I decided to keep it because this is home sewing machine and this is better than other home sewing machine I tried and this is very easy and anyway I can control the foot lifting. I just wish this machine is higher foot space.

Can't beat this for price and quality

Posted by LL Harper on 14th Nov 2018

I bought this sewing machine to be able to take a quality machine to classes and on vacation. It has been a joy...love the even, smooth stitching, extended work surface and especially the automatic thread cutter, My primary machine is a bigger Bernina, but I love this machine. I find myself using it often, not just on vacation. It is perfect for piecing and quilting, too. Highly recommend.
