Sufficient for a basic user
I've had my Janome 3128 for four years. The extent of my sewing experience was once semester of Home Ec in seventh grade 25 years ago. My main reason for purchasing was to do minor clothing repairs and small, easy projects like drawstring knit project bags and aprons for my daughter. I'm satisfied with this machine, as it does what I need. It's not perfect, and the bobbin can be difficult to install, but I chalk that up to my own inexperience as opposed to an issue with the machine. I intend to upgrade to a higher-end Janome and gift this model to my daughter when she's ready to learn how to sew.

Great machine for first timer!
Hello, So I have been sewing with this machine now for about 4 hours and have had zero problems. I am new to sewing. After doing some research I heard that Janome made a great machine for beginners. It was on sale for $99 at Hancock fabrics so I picked it up. My favorite part is the manual! Again, I had no sewing experience before getting this machine and the manual was very clear. I have not experienced the bobbing problem that others are talking about. However, I did read in other reviews on crafts websites that this machine has a hard time with lower quality threads. When I bought the machine I asked a worker at Hancock fabrics about it and she said yes she too has heard of the same issue, and it helps to use better quality thread. Like I said, haven't had any issues with it yet. I think what you get for the price is a great deal. Especially if you are new to sewing or a hobby hopper like me. I can do the basic stuff. Hem stuff, repair stuff, quilt. If I end up only sewing a few times month, I still feel like I got a great deal. Plus, when my cousins come down, the machine is so simple, I can let them learn how to sew. Oh, I almost forgot. This machine is petite and light. So if you want to have a crafting party or attend one it's so easy to take this thing with you. Have you sewing basket in one hand and your machine in the other. Hope this review helped you. Again, my review is coming from someone with no sewing experience and I feel it is a great machine if you are new to sewing.

Great little machine
Just for some history, I'm a very basic sewer (children's clothing, pillows, skirts and dresses for myself) with several years of sewing under my belt. I don't do anything fancy or overly detailed, so I don't need more than a pretty basic machine. In the past I have used the Janome Gem Gold (very good but REALLY basic) and a Brother swing arm machine (hated that thing from the moment I took it out of the box). I came running back to Janome after my experience with the Brother. This little machine is a workhorse. I have sewn countless dresses, jumpers, pajama sets and trousers for my children, along with several skirts and dresses for myself. I've sewn multiple layers of flannel and fleece with absolutely NO problem. The needle is easy to thread, all of the functions are pretty intuitive and the dial is super easy to read (personally not a fan of buttons and digital stuff - more things than can break). The foot is very easy to remove/re-attach when placing a zipper, etc. Once you get the hang of it, the bobbin is easy to install; however, I have had a few issues with thread being a tangled mess right after inserting a new bobbin. This may be my fault, so I'm not taking stars off for this. Also, the bobbin winder can be a bit persnickety (at least on mine) - I have to keep the bobbin in just the right spot for it to wind properly. Again, I'm not exactly an expert so this may well by an error on my part. Aside from a couple of the very minor bobbin issue, I absolutely love this machine and highly recommend it to anyone looking to do basic, straightforward sewing projects. UPDATE: I found that the issue with the bobbin came from the bobbin itself. I had purchased a set of bobbins that purported to work on Janome machines (among others). WRONG. When I went back to the Janome bobbin that came with the machine (quite by accident - it just happened to have the color thread I needed already wound on it) I had absolutely no issues. Be sure to only use Janome bobbins - don't trust other bobbins that claim to work on a Janome machine. :-D

Great Little Machine
This is such a great little sewing machine. Bought it for my granddaughter who is 9 to lern to sew with. It sews smoothly and the stitches re even and nice. It is quite heavy for it's size making it solid when sewing. I highly recommend this for both young and old. Excellent starter machine.
