Janome 3128 sewing machine
I bought this for my granddaughter, and it is a good machine for a beginner. It is easy to thread and lightweight. Since it is smaller, it is a good machine for a youngster, but it would be nice to have a variable-speed pedal. I think my granddaughter will get many years of use out of it.

Perfectly adequate little machine
A good little sewing machine for the beginner, or one who does not sew much. It is very easy to use, the instruction manual perfectly clear. True, as others have said, the bobbin tends to get bound up frequently, but that seems to be true of just about any machine I've ever used, and I expect it. I like it. I would recommend it to others.

Funny noise?
Unfortunately I had to send this machine back when it started making a funny noise. Not sure what was wrong if anything but I don't like funny noises from any electrical product. This could have been specific to the machine I got. I just don't know. I do know that Janome makes a quality product as I have another machine made by Janome and have been using it for years now.

Meh.
It's okay.... you really can't sew knits on it. and the high tension pressing down on the fabric does not allow for any precise control at all so i wouldn't use this for more than very basic straight lines and wide curves.

Great for a first time sewer
Great for a first time sewer; however, it does not have a speed control. If a good brand has a machine for a similar price that has a speed control, you may want to invest in one of those. I am a beginner and am very happy with this machine. It has been very easy to use and I haven't had any problems that others in my class seem to have. I would recommend it to a friend.

Great for beginners
I bought a Janome because my grandma told me to, and who else would I trust with sewing advice? I knew nothing about sewing, but everything about this machine was super easy to learn and I was comfortable with it in no time. One small inconvenience about Janome is that Joanns (at least mine) doesn't carry their bobbins, so I had to go to a sewing/vac shop. Not a huge deal, but maybe something to look into!

Great little machine
This Janome machine was a good investment. While the features aren't as plentiful as some other models, the machine works very well. I have used it for zippers and oilcloth (even the two together) and it had no problem with either. The only issue I have found is the bobbin tends to get caught up in itself (this could be user error but I am more convinced it's a design flaw). I wish the bobbin design was different (maybe a drop in rather than a shuttle) but other than that this machine has held up very well. The storage compartment in the front is a nice addition. I hadn't sewn in years when I bought this and the instructions were very straightforward and the machine was simple enough for me to use that I have been able to produce several items. It's lightweight and small which makes it easy to store. Pros: works well, is quiet, easy to use, light weight, compact, has extra storage built in, comes with cover and carrying handle Cons: bobbin is frustrating and jams occasionally

AWESOME Starter Sewing Machine.
I bought this for my daughter, as she has starting quilting. She LOVES it.. I like it for the fact that she has her own machine & can pass it onto her children, when she's at that point in her life. It's a GREAT starter machine. I'm sure we will be upgrading the machine in the future. Janome has always served me well, and I hope it does the same for her...

Love the little Janome!
Wanted a machine to use for classes. quilt guild, etc. This really fit the bill. It is lightweight, has a light, and the quarter in foot has a guide! It came with several bobbins, and some needles. It has everything I need. It came before expected without any damage to the machine or the box. Very happy with it, for what I use it for.
