The Janome 8002D Serger with Premier Package

The Janome 8002D features a sturdy design that also allows for precise stitching so you can be sure to get a beautiful result from its 3 or 4 thread operation.
This great machine also offers a rolled hem feature that is built into the machine; you don’t even need to change your needle plate. It gives your projects a professional finish. All you need to do is slide your plate over into the R position for a rolled hem – and that’s it.
The Janome 8002D makes it easy to thread your machine with its easy-to-read threading chart that also comes color-coded for your convenience and ease. You don’t need to worry about noise either – this machine is almost whisper-quiet for a serger, even when sewing up to 1300 spm.
Cutting is made easier with an adjustable cutting width of 3.1 mm up to 7.3 mm and a retractable upper knife. You are also offered a dial for left/right needle thread tension and a dial for upper/lower thread tension.
For your convenience, the presser feet snap on and you are provided with a thread guide as well as a thread cutter.
Regularly included accessories with the Janome 8002D consist of a standard serger foot, an instructional video, an instruction book, a pack of serger needles, screwdrivers in both large and small sizes, tweezers, and foot control as well as the power cord.
Inclusions in the bonus bundle are: a Janome Needle Threader, and 2 packets of assorted Janome needles sized 11/14. The standard Janome 8002D warranty offers 5 years on mechanical parts for this machine, 5 years on its electrical parts, and 1 year for labor!

Having never used a serger before, I bought this model somewhat "blind". I have a Janome sewing machine which is fantastic so I relied on the brand. Threading the lower looper is a bit of a challenge but I have conquered it. It's only shortcoming in my mind is that it doesn't do a cover stitch, which would really enhance it's usefulness.

The machine was ready to use out of the box. It was very useful to have the video to refer to. One of my threads was too loose and it took watching the video to realize the thread was not completely seated in the tension device. It seems to be just what I need for my hobby sewing needs.

What a great machine! Especially for the price
What a great machine! Especially for the price. Everything you need to get started right out of the box. I am a first-time serger and cannot believe what a work-horse this machine is. Very happy with this purchase (just wish the threading instructions were a bit better!)

Straightforward- I just need to find somewhere to store it away from my toddler son!
I'll edit this review as time goes on, but I ordered it after doing a bit of research and knowing I wanted something sturdy, simple, and straightforward. Janome seems to have gotten it right with this serger. It came threaded, but my toddler got a hold of it before I could ;|, and I had to re-thread it before using it. I had heard that a serger would be extremely difficult, and while initially appearing overwhelming... it was relatively simple and straightforward... getting easier after each thread. I looked at a youtube video and also the manual. Once threaded it worked perfectly!

I researched all the brand names and found the Janome brand stands out by far. This machine comes ready to use right out of the package. I played around with a serger years ago, but didn't have much experience, so didn't want anything with too many bells and whistles. This serger is simple enough for the beginner, yet capable of meeting the demands on an experienced seamstress. It will almost eliminate the need for a sewing macine.

Got news for all!! Machine says JANOME......You will LOVE IT!!!!!! I purchased a Janome Memorycraft sewing machine a few years ago...and to say that it was the BEST purchase I have ever made is quite an understatement!! Needless to say when I started having constant issues with my older serger...which was most definitely NOT a Janome...I immediately went in search for a new serger which most IS a Janome. Needless to say...I am yet again THRILLED with my new machine. Janome is quality bar none!! Serger is easy to thread...so very easy to operate..does a superior job of over edging. Its wonderful!!

My first serger
I researched for a reliable serger and decided in the Janome8002D. I am making cloth diapers for my daughter's first baby. I have made about a dozen and the serger has worked perfectly. I have even changed the threads and after a failure at the first try, I reviewed the video again and got it right. I plan on making some oil cloth table cloths and this will be perfect. All kinds of projects in my future!! No regrets. Arrived timely and packaged with no damage.
