Sometimes referred to as the Walking Foot, The Even Feed Foot is designed with a set of feed dogs which allow the fabric to reed without shifting and eliminates the problem of the under layer of fabric coming up short. The Even Feed Foot is also great for topstitching. It eliminates seam allowance bulk around collars and reveres.

If you have a Janome machine, use a Janome walking foot
When I bought my Janome 7318 sewing machine, it came with a Prestige walking foot. After struggling with that walking foot through several quilting projects, I replaced it with the Janome walking foot. It is a significant improvement! I only wish I had replaced the 'universal' foot immediately.
