I've noticed the tensions (especially the left needle) definitely behave best with a slightly finer serger thread than the Surel
This review is for the Juki MO644D Serger. Besides my own projects, I take in some sewing/alterations on the side... have been using this machine with light regularity for the last few months. No problems, does what it says it will do with less fuss than some other machines I've met. I've noticed the tensions (especially the left needle) definitely behave best with a slightly finer serger thread than the Surelock most readily available at craft stores. That seems pretty normal in my limited experience. Don't be put off by the stitch length control, it's a bit 'manual' in our push-button world, but I have to adjust this around a lot for performing different tasks & it has really grown on me because you can make very tiny or very broad adjustments quite readily & it is easier to clearly mark spots for your different purposes. So far, it's a solid mid-grade machine. I don't regret the choice.

It's great so far. I haven't used it much but it runs smooth and quiet.Seems to have enough power to sew heavy fabrics.

Love it, not sure how the heck I lived ...
Love it, not sure how the heck I lived as a sewer prior to! A bit tough to thread, but once you do it several times it becomes a bit easier.
