In LOVE
Newer to sewing ( only about a year), and have never ever serged a single thing before this evening. Spent hours (and hours) lusting after Baby Locks on youtube. Realized after seeing just the preowned prices that I will always buy a new car instead of a serger... and readjusted my thinking to one that matched reality. My subsequent hours of research led me to choose the Juki over the Brother, Singer or Janome. I received the machine today. I threaded it immediately. I DID watch many videos on the topic, and am a visual learner. I successfully threaded in about 5 mins, and test stitched with no issues with tension after. I will note that I have no children, excellent vision, a lot of "free time" and a large workspace. These factors may have made the whole deal easier for me, but I am telling you- this thing is unreal. I literally kissed it before I pried myself away from her to go to bed at 1 am. I sew almost exclusively with knits, and within 30 minutes of ownership, JUKI has changed my life. The feel of the machine is dense, compact, quality. Like a super expensive industrial thing. Nothing frilly or brittle or wobbly or shaky. Just - hardcore. YET- friendly and sexy and enjoyable to touch. I HIGHLY suggest you give this amazing machine a try, even if (like me) you have to spend a bit longer watching youtube videos abut it whilst you save up for her.

I can tell you that you won't be disappointed with this serger
Just learning to sew and decided to learn both the traditional sewing machine and serger at the sametime. What made me lean towards the Juki MO-654DE was it's all metal construction, quality, and the fact that it's fairly simple to thread. Having worked on and repaired sewing machines, I can tell you that you won't be disappointed with this serger! It's a well made machine and should last you for quite sometime or at least till you upgrade to a 5 or 8 thread serger =)

So glad I chose Juki!! Please read my important tip!
This is my first serger, but I did a lot of research beforehand, as I do with all larger purchases. I was going to originally get the Brother 1034D, but was hesitant because I used to own a Brother sewing machine that was an Amazon best seller with hundreds of great reviews...but I ended up hating it and selling it and lost hours of frustrated sewing time with errors it made. So I didn't want to make the same mistake with their serger, just in case. Yes, I spent almost $200 more, but I plan on owning this for a very long time, so might as well purchase high quality right off the bat. First off, an IMPORTANT TIP: when you thread this machine, make SURE you pull the threads into the tension dials all the way. You'll feel the thread kind of seat itself in there, takes a little bit more force than just wrapping the thread around the dial. When I first threaded mine (which by the way, it comes threaded), I could not figure out why the tension was all screwed up and any adjustments I made had no effect! I was like what the heck is wrong?? I only found this info from within a couple other reviews I read--you probably won't find this tip online anywhere easily. Your machine will NOT serge properly without making sure of this tip! back to the review... Threading is definitely not difficult! If anything, it's obviously time-consuming, but that's all. And each time you do it, it's easier. Mostly, it's only the upper and lower loopers that take time to thread, and even then, once you know how, the entire process can be done in 10-15 minutes. You can also do the method where you tie on new thread spools instead of re-threading. The left and right needles are basically the same as threading a sewing machine. The hardest part is that some of the machinics get in the way of your hands, thus the tweezers that are included. I have not tried anything besides the 4-thread overlock yet, which works like a dream. So I imagine once I learn the other stitches, those will be amazing also. Of course, I wish I also had a coverstitch machine, but a twin needle on the sewing gone works just fine honeslty. All in all, highly recommended! Just so so glad I got this (although I'm sure my husband wasn't happy that my garage sale money went to this instead of bills...oops) hey, a girl has got to sew! Bills will always be there, right? ;)

great starter, never used one before i got this and i love it!
I bought this around xmas, had never used a serger before in my life. The threading was confusing to me but since it came threaded that helped a ton so I could see how it worked before trying it on my own. The manual makes it pretty easy to do after that with a little practice. Anyway this machine is fantastic I love it! It has worked wonderfully for me and I'm so glad that I made this purchase. I'm still enjoying the beautiful stitches as well as enjoying the fact that it pretty much has any and every stitch I've ever wanted, great little machine for the price. It really does so much and it does it well. I only wish it had come with a few extra feet but for the price I can afford to buy them separately. I've had this for a few years now and it has not disappointed me.

Love
Love this machine. It takes time to learn if you haven’t and the manual was not very helpful but YouTube helped me get it threaded and I now enjoy sewing on it regularly

Good solid but lightweight and portable
So far so good! It makes a nice stitch and runs smoothly. A little hard to thread but most of them unless you get into the $1200 are. My first serger back in the 80’s was a juki and it lasted a long time. I’ve had other brand since and I think the juki is still my top pick (besides my babylock which was $1500) Good choice for a basic hardworking serger.
