Best serger out there for this price!
This is probably the 10th Juki MO654de serged that I've purchased. My business partner and I each own two for ourselves, we bought one for our business, and we do frequent giveaways for them on our Facebook page. We will only ever use Juki sergers for the rest of our lives! I use mine almost every day and have had them for 6 years and they are still going strong!!!

Love it! Plus a tip on adjusting tension
This machine is a dream. I did a lot of research and so many people I know have the Brother 1034d (and they love it), but I was leery of Brother in terms of long term quality. Juki and Janome's were high on my list... and this Juki overall had the best reviews. I bought from my local sewing center because of the free class and warranty. When I was still shopping they had a new floor model that needed to be threaded (The Juki line was new the store in general). The sales person (not reading the manual)let me watch her thread it and she just followed the color coding. The tension was set to 4 on all dials and the tension was perfect the first try. I got my new in the box one home and rethreaded it according to the manual and my tension was off. In the first step the manual has you wrap the thread around the plastic thingy. The sales person didn't do this. (see photos). So at first I did it like the manual. It was my bottom looper that was off. I rethread that one the way the sales person did and after that my tension was perfect. I had my top looper at a 3 and my bottom at a 5... the needles were at 4 tension. I didn't mess with those because once I fixed the bottom looper I had the correct tension.

An excellent serger for anyone
This is my first serger, bought well-used (parts of the plastic case had changed color from being in the sun). I love it! I bought it only for overlocking inside edges on seams, but it does such a nice, tiny rolled edge that I'm planning to make hankies too. It's very tough, handles thick fabric perfectly, is easy to thread because of the color-coding (though on mine the sun had also bleached out the color indicators, making it hard to tell blue from green), stitches so fast that I can't operate it at full speed, doesn't jump around even on a bare tabletop, and the thread spindles are spaced widely enough to take cones even bigger than the usual MaxiLock ones. My only regret is that it doesn't know how to do cover or chain stitches. I haven't really had occasion to use the differential feed, but in my little test it seemed to work well.

Quality!!
I've only had this machine for a week and already have done 10x more sewing than I did with my previous Janome in the 6 weeks I had it before sending it back. Smooth and quiet. Very responsive foot pedal. All sergers are tough to thread but it only took 5 minutes with the book and some good lighting to figure it out. Very quality product!!

Amazing quality
This machine is phenomenal! I previously had a brother 1034d that I thought was the BEST machine ever until the timing got thrown off by serging through 4 denim layers. I attempted to fix it myself without success. Getting it fixed with a local shop would be just as much as buying a new one so I dumped it and upgraded to o a juki. Oh my goodness, this machine is so much QUIETER than the brother and it handles curves flawlessly. Rolled hems don't skip stitches like the brother did, making them look flawless. I did not know what I was missing until I got my Juki!

So glad I chose Juki!! Please read my important tip!
This is my first serger, but I did a lot of research beforehand, as I do with all larger purchases. I was going to originally get the Brother 1034D, but was hesitant because I used to own a Brother sewing machine that was an Amazon best seller with hundreds of great reviews...but I ended up hating it and selling it and lost hours of frustrated sewing time with errors it made. So I didn't want to make the same mistake with their serger, just in case. Yes, I spent almost $200 more, but I plan on owning this for a very long time, so might as well purchase high quality right off the bat. First off, an IMPORTANT TIP: when you thread this machine, make SURE you pull the threads into the tension dials all the way. You'll feel the thread kind of seat itself in there, takes a little bit more force than just wrapping the thread around the dial. When I first threaded mine (which by the way, it comes threaded), I could not figure out why the tension was all screwed up and any adjustments I made had no effect! I was like what the heck is wrong?? I only found this info from within a couple other reviews I read--you probably won't find this tip online anywhere easily. Your machine will NOT serge properly without making sure of this tip! back to the review... Threading is definitely not difficult! If anything, it's obviously time-consuming, but that's all. And each time you do it, it's easier. Mostly, it's only the upper and lower loopers that take time to thread, and even then, once you know how, the entire process can be done in 10-15 minutes. You can also do the method where you tie on new thread spools instead of re-threading. The left and right needles are basically the same as threading a sewing machine. The hardest part is that some of the machinics get in the way of your hands, thus the tweezers that are included. I have not tried anything besides the 4-thread overlock yet, which works like a dream. So I imagine once I learn the other stitches, those will be amazing also. Of course, I wish I also had a coverstitch machine, but a twin needle on the sewing gone works just fine honeslty. All in all, highly recommended! Just so so glad I got this (although I'm sure my husband wasn't happy that my garage sale money went to this instead of bills...oops) hey, a girl has got to sew! Bills will always be there, right? ;)

Great, quiet, stable, consistent Serger
I'm an experience seamstress. I have owned about 4 sergers at this point. I bought the JUKI MO654DE Portable Thread Serger Sewing Machine about a month ago. What a great machine. So smooth and quiet. Very consistent stitch quality. Easy to thread. I love the technology they have for the knives. I find it cuts thru bulk much better than my other sergers…..very little to no distortion. I try and go very slow over cross seams. It also navigates curves very well. I'm impressed. I'm contemplating purchasing a second one.

Juki Serger finishes first in my book!
This is a delightful addition to my embroidery machine and straight stitch machines! It works great and I did what people suggested on here by taking a picture of the threading before I started to use it! The feedback comments on this Juki machine were very helpful in making my decision to buy this. They pointed out some valid factors to consider with this purchase, such as the tension numbers factory settings is extremely important to write down when you first take it out of the box. I own another babylock that I didn't do that with and have always had problems with the thread tensions because of that, even after paying for servicing. I sew all the time and even was blessed to have my dress appear on TV this last month and in a fashion Show in Vegas! It is a great buy for the money and lots of fun for any project!

Juki sergers are proven workhorses!
High quality 4 thread serger at a reasonable price! This is a refined version of a proven Juki design that just plain works. This is nearly identical in every respect to my wife's 25 year old Juki 634DEV that is still purring like a kitten after years of use. She is now using that older model as a dedicated rolled hem machine for garment construction. This newer 654DE is just as smooth and vibration free as the earlier model but adds a wonderful new ability to much more easily thread the lower looper. My wife is thrilled with this new refined model and now uses it for all her general serging duties. Important note: You do not need more than one serger for rolled hem and 3/4 thread overlock functionality. She only does this to speed up garment construction by eliminating the need to change over from overlock to rolled hemming on a single machine. This 654DE will do beautiful rolled hems and 3 and 4 thread overlock stitches. The conversion is very straightforward and easy. It just takes a bit of time.
